Abstract:A kind of high-copper and low-cobalt copper-cobalt oxide ore in Congo(DRC) contains 2.52% Cu and 0.12% Co, with the copper oxidation rate at 94.60%. An acid leaching process was adopted in the test to recover the Cu and Co therein. With the feeding minerals at a sizing of 80% -0.074 mm and liquid-solid ratio of 2∶1, the leaching process at room temperature for 2 h by a single addition of sulfuric acid at 150 kg/t results in leaching rates of Cu and Co reaching 93.80% and 94.97% respectively, with the acid consumption per ton of ore at 62.19 kg (equivalent to 2.82 t sulfuric acid per ton of copper). It is shown that Cu and Co can be effectively recovered from such kind of copper-cobalt oxide ore by adopting an acid leaching process at normal temperature, which can be of a reference for the development of similar mines in an economic way.
